Going home after surgery
The first night
Keep your pet warm, quiet, and indoors. Offer water as advised. Soft food may be recommended for the first meals.
Wound and collar
- Check the site twice a day for swelling, discharge, or opening
- Keep any cone or suit on until we say it can come off
- No baths or swimming until the desk clears it
- Activity
- Lead walks only; no running or jumping until cleared
- Medicines
- Give exactly as written on the label from this visit
- Recheck
- Return on the date printed on your discharge note

Can I give extra pain medicine?
Only what we dispensed or approved for this pet. Extra doses of human or leftover medicine are unsafe.
When can stitches come out?
At the recheck we booked, unless the note says otherwise.
