Fasting and anaesthesia
Why fasting matters
Food in the stomach raises the risk of vomiting under anaesthesia. We ask you to follow the fasting window given on your booking confirmation or by the desk.
Typical windows
- Food
- Stop per the time printed on your confirmation
- Water
- Usually allowed until the morning of the procedure unless told otherwise
- Medicines
- Give only what the vet listed; bring the rest in the original pack
Drop-off day
- Arrive at the time on your confirmation
- Leave a reachable phone number for the day
- Tell us about any cough, vomiting, or diarrhoea overnight
Questions
What if my pet ate by accident?
Tell the desk before admission. We may delay the procedure for safety.
Will my pet stay overnight?
Only when the clinician decides it is safer. We will call you with the plan.
